Getting started

Pamela as a standalone app

Pamela runs on its own, without an EHR behind it. You install the desktop app, create your clients in Pamela, and your Notes stay there.

Installing Pamela

  1. Open the download link for your computer.
  2. On a Mac: double-click the downloaded file and drag Pamela into your Applications folder. That way the app lives on your Mac and not in your downloads.
  3. On Windows: run the downloaded file and follow the installer.
  4. Open Pamela. You land straight on the sign-in screen.
Note

Allow a few minutes for the download. This is a full app of roughly 230 MB, not a small installer.

2

Before you start

Set your account up once before your first consultation. That takes about five minutes and you never have to do it again.

  • Sign in with your email address, or through Google or Microsoft.
  • Set your app, transcription and summary language.
  • Give permission to record. This is the one step you cannot skip.
3

Creating a client

Without an EHR behind it, you create clients in Pamela yourself.

  1. Look at the name of your organisation in the list on the left.
  2. Hover over it. A plus appears after the name.
  3. Click it. The Patient details screen opens on the right.

The plus belongs to the organisation you click it on. If you work in several organisations, that is how you decide where the client ends up. There is also a Personal clients group.

Identification
BSN, nine digits. If you enter it, Pamela fetches the details. You can skip this and fill in the details yourself. Then First names, Prefix, Surname, Date of birth and Sex.
Contact
Phone and Email, Postcode and House number.
Notes
Free text notes.

Pamela warns you at the bottom if something is missing, and there is a reason for that. Without a date of birth, Pamela cannot recognise this patient on the phone. Without a phone number or email, this patient cannot be reached. Postcode and house number are used together by the phone assistant to check who is calling. Skip them and the assistant cannot verify a caller.

Note

You can create a client with less detail. The warnings do not block you, but they tell you what will not work.

4

During the consultation

From here on it is the same as any other setup. You open the client, click New note, Pamela records and transcribes, you pick a template, and Generate notes writes the consultation up.

Note

At the bottom of the Note sits an orange block, Extracted clinical data. Pamela proposes, you confirm. Until you confirm it stays a proposal, and it is the point where you become responsible for what is in the record.
